Trojans earn wins over Southern Miss and Louisiana to finish week

After a strong outing last weekend against James Madison, Troy men’s tennis picked up two more wins against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

The Trojans would start out just as hot as they left off against the Golden Eagles with a 6-2 Nicolas Simkin and Noah Martens win in the No. 1 doubles spot. Henrique de Brito and Luciano Alcocer clinched the doubles point for the Trojans with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot.

The third doubles match went unfinished with a 5-3 Troy lead.

The Trojans would stay hot in singles, with Andres Pastor recording a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 1 spot. Martens put the Trojan advantage at three with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot. Hiiro Sakamoto would pick up his 19th win on the season, and 10th win in a row, with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 4 spot to clinch the Trojan win.

The remaining matches went unfinished.

The Trojans turned around quick with a win against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

The Trojans started off by winning the doubles point yet again with a 6-3 Alcocer and de Brito win in the No. 3 spot before Martens and Simkin secured the doubles point for the Trojans with a 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot.

Martens would stay hot for the Trojans with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 3 singles spot before Andres Pastor put the Trojans within one point of victory with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top spot.

Louisiana mounted a comeback, winning three matches in a row before Simkin thwarted the Ragin’ Cajuns effort and gave the Trojans the win.

Troy now boasts a three-match win streak and looks to end the season strong with a home match against the Georgia State Panthers on Saturday, Apr. 12.
