The No. 74 Trojans had a rough weekend in Georgia as they suffered two Sun Belt Conference losses.
Before their conference matchups with Georgia Southern and Georgia State, the Troy men’s tennis team collected a 6-1 win over Division II Augusta.
Junior Noah Martens moved up to court two in Carles Anton’s absence from the singles lineup and delivered a confident 6-1, 6-1 win. Martens is now 4-0 on the season from court two.
On Saturday, the Trojans faced the No. 70 Eagles in a close match.
Georgia Southern won the crucial doubles point by defeating the unbeaten pairing of Mario Martinez Serrano and Luciano Alcocer. Martinez and Alcocer were 12-0 before their narrow 7-5 defeat.
Benjamin Ambrosio and Alcocer both delivered two-set victories, but the Trojans were unable to muster any other points.
Troy eventually fell 4-2 with one match remaining unfinished.
On Sunday, Troy faced Georgia State in another tight Sun Belt match.
The Trojans started strong with the doubles point victory thanks to a bounce-back 7-5 performance from Alcocer and Martinez and a 6-4 victory from Anton and Yeray Andres Pastor.
No. 93 Martinez also rebounded and collected a 6-3, 6-2 win over Baran Soyler to improve his record to 21-2 on the season.
Unfortunately, the Panthers rallied and collected four wins in singles to defeat the Trojans.
Troy lost its second conference match of the weekend with an identical score of 4-2.
This loss also marked the first time the Troy men’s tennis team had secured the doubles point but failed to win the match this year.
After the disappointing weekend away, the Trojans now sit with a 3-4 conference record and an 18-6 overall record.
Troy will look to snap its two-match skid as the squad takes on Coastal Carolina at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. Sunday. This will be their last regular season match of the season before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament begins on April 17.
