The Troy women’s soccer team started its 2024 campaign off with a 2-1 win over the Eagles of Eastern Washington last Thursday at the Troy Soccer Complex.
In the win, it was redshirt freshman Georgia Mulholland who scored her first collegiate goal in her first start as a Trojan. The Missouri City, Texas, native is one of many newcomers to the Troy women’s soccer team after starting her career at Baylor.
Mulholland scored the Trojans first goal of the season against Eastern Washington as she hit the top right corner in the 27th minute. Later in the match, Mulholland was a couple inches short of scoring again as she hit the crossbar before the end of the half.
In her first match as a Trojan, the freshman recorded one goal off two shots with one shot on goal in only 40 minutes of playing time. With the goal, Mulholland’s shooting percentage goes up to an 50% on the season.
“I was just really shocked honestly,” said Mulholland after the game. “This was my first collegiate game since I redshirted at Baylor and transferred so it’s also a new position for me. I came from playing center back to outside midfield, so I was definitely just not expecting that.”
Mulholland feels right at home in Troy.
“I love Troy, I feel like I really like found my home here,” Mulholland said. “I just cannot say enough good things about this university, I really love it.
“I love the coaches; I love the team. This is just such a special team and I’m really grateful to be here.”
Before redshirting at Baylor, Mulholland was a star player at Ridge Point High School, making the state semifinals all four years and making state finals in her sophomore year.
That season, the Panthers went 26-1. In her junior year, Mulholland was named an all-state, academic all-district, first team all-district, and team MVP for the Panthers.
