UFC 308 Preview
After a pay-per-view card earlier this month in UFC 307, the league looks to deliver once again this Saturday when UFC 308 features a featherweight title clash between current champion, Ilia “El Matador” Topuria, and former champion, and current BMF belt holder, Max “Blessed” Holloway. However, in order to get to that main event, fans will first get to witness the highly anticipated middleweight matchup between Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev and Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker.
Ilia Topuria vs Max Holloway
After dethroning long time featherweight champion Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski via a second round knockout to gain the featherweight strap, Ilia “El Matador” Topuria will take on a man that knows Volkanovski all too well in Max “Blessed” Holloway.
After losing his trilogy match with Volkanovski, Holloway rattled off two consecutive wins against Arnold Allen and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung before then defeating Justin Gaethje with a last second knockout to capture the BMF belt.
Holloway enjoyed a long featherweight title reign from June 2017 to December 2019 before he was dethroned by the aforementioned Volkanovski. Holloway will look to regain the belt against current champion Topuria.
However, it will be no easy task as he is faced with the task of prying that belt out of the deadly hands of current champion Ilia Topuria.
Coming off of two statement wins against Bryce Mitchell and Josh Emmet, Topuria was given a crack at long time featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, where Topuria would capitalize completely, flooring the champ in the second round to take the title.
My Prediction: Topuria wins with a round two knockout
Khamzat Chimaev vs Robert Whittaker
After a long wait and multiple cancellations, Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker and Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev will (hopefully) finally meet in the center of the octagon Saturday night with title implications on the line.
After dropping a fight to now champion Dricus Du Plessis, Whittaker rattled off two straight wins against Paulo Costa and Ikram Aliskerov, the latter of which he ended with a first round knockout.
His opponent, Chimaev, has been nothing short of a force to be reckoned with during his UFC tenure, winning all seven bouts including recording five finishes.
There is no doubt the winner of this fight will be next in line for a title shot.
