New ATLA Fortnite update brings more to the table

Jocelyn Jones

If you’re a gamer and love to play battle royales, here is my take on the new update and collaboration with Fortnite and a modern cult classic.

For those who are new to Fortnite, it is a third-person shooter game created by Epic Games and is free to play on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and PC. It is best known for its “Battle Royale” game mode in which you can build walls around you using materials you harvest to barricade and/or strategize, but I primarily play in Zero Build mode, which requires no building.

You can play with up to four people, which is called a squad, and you can collect skins from the item shop which will force you to pay real dollars for in-game currency of V-Bucks. Skins cost around 1,500 V-Bucks which is equivalent to $11.99. There is much more to Fortnite, but this is the summary of what Fortnite is.

If you haven’t played yet, you definitely should give it a try. The game begins with a flying battle bus that carries up to 100 players and each player will “thank” the bus driver (jump off the bus and dive) and land on any landmark on the map.

One of the items that players can obtain is mythics, which are very powerful weapons based off of the theme of the season. This season we have Greek mythology. We have Zeus, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Artemis, Medusa and Hades on the map, and if you challenge these characters, you can obtain medallions that give you special powers in the game that can increase your likelihood of survival.

The only issue with carrying a medallion is that your location can be shown on the map making you an easier target to find.

In the middle of this season, Epic launched a new update to put Avatar the Last Airbender on the map. There is even a mini battle pass that is free to obtain if you complete your quests daily. This is going on for three weeks, so if you love ATLA, I would start completing your quests to unlock the pages and also get the Appa glider. The Air Chakra is soon to be open for quest completion within a few days, which leaves two more chakras until you can unlock the Appa glider.

If you are wondering what the in-game experience is like with the new ATLA update, it is a dream come true.

All four elements are in the game: Waterbending, Airbending, Earthbending and Firebending. Water is my favorite because it deals a lot of damage, it is the easiest to control compared to the other elements, you can heal if you are in a body of water on the map, and you can swim faster.

With Air, you can travel the entire map very quickly. It is useful to run from storms, and it prevents you from receiving fall damage if you are continuously using it.

Earthbending is great too but too slow for my liking. It is useful because you can create a blockade and throw up to five large rocks at your opponent.

Lastly, Firebending is also one of my favorites, but it is very hard to control. It deals a great amount of damage, but I find if you don’t strategize well, you can end up eliminated quickly.

In the item shop, you can buy a bundle for 4,000 V-Bucks with Katara and Zuko, and 2,000 V-Bucks for Toph. Aang is in the mini battle pass and costs 1,000 V-Bucks, but his avatar state must be unlocked through earning Chi in the mini battle pass.

My top-three favorite spots to land on the map are Grim Gate, Mount Olympus and Classy Courts because the loot pool is great, and it is a great spot to quickly get eliminations.

These are the busiest places to land on the map, but as you get better, the anticipation to land in that area becomes worth it.

Currently, the game is set on chapter five season two, which began March 9 and will end on May 24. And yes, I have completed the battle pass.
