The Student Government Association (SGA) is welcoming new senators for the 2023-2024 school year. Students voted for senators from each college department, housing, and international. Now, the results are in and have been released.

“I’m really excited to be elected as an SGA senator,” said Abby Lane, a freshman communications major from Sand Rock, Alabama. “I’m really excited to get started on the year and be able to serve the student body like I have this past year through Freshman Forum.”

Lane will serve as a senator in the West Housing District. She currently serves as a delegate for Freshman Forum.

“I am extremely honored to be elected as a Senator At-Large because I love having the opportunity to be an advocate for the students at Troy University,” said Meagan Ingram, a sophomore accounting major from Helena, Alabama.

“It feels awesome to be elected as one of the senators for the College of Arts and Sciences,” said Andrew Stafford, a marine biology major from Alabaster, Alabama. “It means that I've made a positive impact on the students at Troy, and that was enough for them to click on my face when they saw me on the ballot.

All three senators expressed a want to be voices for Troy students. They said they hope students will come to them with ideas to bring to the SGA Executive Council.

“It would be really cool if we were able to get some of the things students want to get passed through SGA,” Lane said. “I hope that all the students get to bring their ideas to me, and I get to bring that to our SGA Executive board this year.

“I’m just really excited to get to know everybody. I just hope students get what they want out of the SGA.”

Ingram has already begun thinking about the ways she can contribute to improving Troy University.

“I want to hear the concerns of the students and be a voice and advocate for them,” Ingram said. “I would love to use my position in SGA to provide positive change around our amazing campus. I am so thankful to have been elected as a representative for the student body.”

The senators also said they want to improve aspects on campus such as safety and student activities.

“Right now, a couple of my main goals besides, generally helping out wherever I can, is to improve safety on campus,” Stafford said. “Another current member and I are in the beginning stages of writing a bill to improve driving safety.

“ I also want to improve a few aspects of Greek Life, namely the weeks in the Fall and Spring that see them compete with one another.”

The new senators will begin their work in the Fall. You can find a complete list of newly elected senators on the SGA’s Instagram page, @troysga.
