Noah Edders fires a pitch against Marshall on Saturday.
The No. 17 ranked Trojans welcomed the Thundering Herd of Marshall into Riddle-Pace Field for weekend action. Troy won the series 2-1, largely fueled by strong pitching in close contests. Although the offense scores runs, defense wins games – which is what happened in game two. In a game where only two Trojans recorded hits, runs were at a premium.
Arguably more important than scoring runs was keeping Marshall off the board, which Noah Edders did for 7.1 innings.
“I was kind of a two-pitch guy the whole day,” said starting pitcher Noah Edders. “I got the slider going early.
“I got them guessing, and we just started mixing from there.”
While Edders is responsible for all three Marshall runs on five hits, he rung up seven while only walking one. It must be mentioned that his 7.1 inning outing is the deepest a Trojan pitcher has gone in a game this season.
“Really good job from him, and we needed it -- I think when you have a starter that goes that deep, it provides your team a little bit of comfort,” said head coach Skylar Meade.
The Bradley transfer laid the groundwork for his latest start the week prior when taking on No. 16 Coastal Carolina. There the 6-foot-4”, 232-pound junior sat down nine in 6.0 innings of work. His combined 16 strikeouts over his last two starts ties the career high over a two game stretch he set last year – six strike outs against UNLV followed by single-game career high of 10 versus Omaha.
While at Bradley, Edders served as an innings eater, pitching 79.0 innings over the 15 games he started. His total ranked eighth amongst the Missouri Valley Conference. He finished the season boasting a 6-5 record with a 6.15 ERA, but he ranked first on the team and sixth in the conference in strikeouts with 76.
The team will be back in action Wednesday, Apr. 2, as Florida A&M looks to avenge their loss from earlier this season. Following the midweek, the Men of Troy will travel to Norfolk, Virginia, for a three-game series with the Old Dominion Monarchs.
