Variety cover band Park Band started back in 2008 after all its band members met while at Troy University. On Friday night, they returned to their Trojan roots to give Troy residents a night to remember.
“We were hoping to simply provide a good time for the community as well as students at Troy,” said Tucker Park, the lead singer of Park Band. “Whether that be somebody that has seen us multiple times or somebody that is seeing us for the first time.”
The square was packed with people crowding park benches, children playing and people of all ages putting on their dancing shoes.
While the band has been playing at events all over the southeast since they first formed, there was a good mix of people present on Friday who had never listened to the band and people who have had prior experiences with them.
“I’ve never heard the band,” said Teresa Motes, one of the many in attendance. “They’ve got a variety of music.
“It’s enjoyable for everybody. It looks like everybody’s having a good time.”
Since the band met at Troy University, many former students of the university have a history of listening to the band perform.
“[I] love the Park Band,” said Darby Claxton, a former Troy University student. “When I went to college here in 2017, they played a lot, and I’ve always loved them.
“It’s crazy just seeing them go from playing at frat houses and bars and stuff to now. They’re playing at peoples’ weddings, and people are booking them for actual events.”
While Park Band prides itself on being a variety cover band, they did release an EP back in 2009. Though the EP has been recently taken down off Apple Music and Spotify, many people still know the lyrics to its track “Top of the Mountain.”
“It was very special to see people that have been coming to see us for years singing that one back to us,” said Park.
Park Band will return to Troy once again on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Tailgate Terrace to perform on campus.
