Miss Troy 2024 competitors pose together after the pageant ended.

The selection for Miss Troy University 2025 is quickly approaching, and candidates are working hard to prepare. The selection will take place on February 13, but there is a lot of practice to be done.

Contestants are expected to attend multiple required practice days to hone their talent, speech and interview skills. This process helps build confidence for the day of the competition.

Dr. KeLeigh Pritchett, the competition director, makes sure every woman interested is doing her best, both on and off the stage.

“I competed for several years,” Pritchett said. “Anything that I’ve ever interviewed for I’ve felt successful coming out of because of the skills that I developed while competing.”

Practices start on Feb. 9 and continue all the way through competition day.

One other event that competitors are encouraged to attend is the yearly tea with Janice Hawkins, the first lady of Troy University.

Competitors are asked to share their community service initiatives for the program. This means something that they would do to better the community while wearing the crown.

“I really care about foster care, and there’s a lot of problems within the system itself,” said Colleen Griffin, a freshman theatre major from Elmore, Alabama, and competitor for Miss Troy 2025. “I just hope if I win Miss Troy University, I get to raise awareness about that and educate people who are following me.”

The crowning of Miss Troy University 2025 also means the current Miss Troy University, Sarah Jane Houston, a junior majoring in psychology from Albany, Georgia, will be stepping down. After a year of holding the title, she finds this to be a bittersweet time.

“I feel like I’ve been able to make the most of this year of service,” Houston said. “I’ll cherish these memories for the rest of my life.”

“We grow to love our current title holder and want to be a part of her life,” said Pritchett. “We love Sarah Jane, and she has been an excellent representative for Troy University, but it’s also exciting to meet someone new.”

However, Houston’s pageant career is far from over, as she plans to compete for Miss Georgia 2025, in her home state.

“I was born and raised in Albany, Georgia,” Houston said. “I’m excited to return home and compete for the title.”
