Saturday, the UFC will head to Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, for a pretty mediocre card that’s saved by the magnitude of its two title fights.
In the main event, Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis will square off in a rematch of their Fight of the Year candidate fight from last year in which Du Plessis won a controversial decision to take the belt from Strickland. The co-main event will showcase superstar Weili Zhang taking on long awaited title challenger Tatiana Suarez.
Sean Strickland vs Dricus Du Plessis 2:
I think this fight is not going to be nearly as close as the first fight. I actually thought Sean won the first fight, but I also really didn’t like DDP before the aftermath of his fight against middleweight great Israel Adesanya.
I see the first round and maybe the second being relatively close, but I see DDP having a huge third round and likely getting a finish in the championship rounds. However, the prize for winning this fight is fighting Khamzat Chimaev, so I do not envy the winner whatsoever. I think the most likely outcome of this fight is going to be DDP winning by fifth round TKO or possibly even knocking out Strickland flush.
Weili Zhang vs Tatiana Suarez:
Tatiana Suarez has been deserving of a title shot since 2019, but unfortunately, due to injuries she was sidelined for almost four years. She hasn’t fought since she subbed Jessica Andrade in August of 2023.
I think the ring rust is going to be a huge factor in this fight. However, I think the biggest factor in this fight is going to be that there are maybe two WMMA fighters on this planet that hit as hard as Weili Zhang, and I don’t think Tatiana Suarez is going to be able to deal with the power going into the later rounds.
I see this fight being EXTREMELY competitive through three and a half rounds, but ultimately, the experience and power of Weili should help her retain the belt.
