Prospective employers on campus next week

Troy University’s career services department will be hosting a career fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, in Sartain Hall.

According to Lauren Cole, career services coordinator, the spring 2016 career fair, open to all Troy University students, aims to provide students with an opportunity to take a free, professional headshot, as well as the opportunity to meet and greet over 40 employers.

A variety of companies will be represented, both local and from surrounding regions, such as the Alabama Banking Department, CGI, Georgia Pacific, Honda, Wells Fargo and many more.

Cole explained how the fair will be set up.

“When you first walk in, we’ll be taking professional headshots that will be available for download on our website afterwards and can be used on social media or any other websites,” Cole said.

“There will be maps that show which employers are present and where in Sartain they are located. It’s up to the students to look at the map, see what employers are there and choose the employers they’d like to talk to, though I would encourage them to talk to everyone.”

Students are encouraged to dress in business professional attire and to bring several copies of their resumes with them to give to potential employers.

“Work experience is crucial to a student’s overall success in two ways,” Cole said. “It benefits the student because work experience is completely different than just learning about it in the classroom.

“From the employer’s viewpoint, work experience shows that a student has taken the time and put in the effort to pursue what they want to do.”

A comprehensive list of the employers who will be in attendance can be found on TrojanLink. The site can be accessed through http://www.troy.edu/careerservices.

A networking mixer will also being held on Tuesday, March 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Hawkins Hall room 117. The mixer will allow students to have an interactive panel dialogue with prospective employers.

In an email sent out to all students, the office of career services said “the aim of this discussion is provide the students with an overview of the employers and their respective organizations, as well as an opportunity to ask questions.”

Any questions can be directed to career services at (334) 670-3217 or TroyCareer@troy.edu.
