Ready, Set, GLOW

Student LED Yoga session has others glowing

Troy University Welcome Week lit up Elm Street Gym Monday with glow sticks and neon lights during its annual ‘Glow in the Dark Yoga’ event.

“It was really fun,” said Amy McDaniels, a senior marketing major from Birmingham, Alabama. “The graphics really made me think it was going to be a good time.

“I think it was a great opportunity for freshman to come meet people and get to know people.”

Welcome week events such as glow in the dark yoga provide all students the opportunity to get involved on Troy’s campus in a setting that is meant to be fun and relaxing .

Riley Green, a sophomore hospitality and tourism management major from Destin, Florida, was the yoga instructor for the event. Along with leading students in yoga poses and stretches during the event, Green also teaches yoga classes at the student recreation center four days a week. Green began instructing classes in the rec center on campus in spring of 2023.

Green shared how she enjoyed the event and had a great time doing yoga with students.

“It was super chill in here, and we just had a great time,” Green said. “It was super cool in here; the lights were great, and everyone was glowing.”

Glow in the Dark Yoga was for all students of all skill levels to come out and enjoy.

Green also shared how much she has enjoyed instructing yoga, not just for students here on campus, but also for herself.

“I am really enjoying yoga and having so much fun. It’s been a really good experience, and I’ve noticed big changes in my flexibility and balance.”

Although yoga is a great way for students to get physically active on campus, it’s also a great opportunity for students to make new friends.

“We have a great time,” Green said. “I've made so many friends with people who come to my classes, so it's a great way to meet people.”

If students would like to get involved with yoga and improve their strength and flexibility, yoga classes take place at the rec center on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8 a.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m.
