Troy track and field owns a new record at the UAB Track and Field Complex after sophomore Javon Osbourne broke the record in throws with a 55.59m throw in the men’s discus throw on Saturday.
The sophomore has two top-5 finishes with the other being in the javelin throw. Osbourne was on the verge of reaching the podium but slipped to fourth as the event was closing out. Alongside Osbourne breaking records, two of his teammates placed for Troy as well. Jasai Taylor won the 400m hurdles while Cole Stewart won in the javelin throw.
Meanwhile, in the women’s event, Amelia Nettles led a sweep in hammer throw. On her second throw, Nettles went into first place with a throw of 44.21m. On her fourth throw, the junior from Wetumpka, Alabama threw a 46.30m mark, which kept her in first place for the rest of the event.
Leah Kennedy temporarily held the gold for her first throw in the hammer throw event as it hit 42.81m her second throw topped it with a 43.71 wrapping up the day for the Trojan’s throwers.
Troy had four first place finishes, eight second place finishers and six third places finishes. The Trojans will continue to compete in Tampa, Florida this Friday.
