Troy University is bringing back a Rotaract Club.
“I’m excited for new organizations like this that better the university,” said Troy University SGA President Heath Barton, a senior global business major from Opp. “The university used to have a Rotaract Club a while back, but it hasn’t been an active part of the school in recent years.”
Barton said a constitution was presented a couple of weeks ago to the Student Government Association for re-establishing the organization for the Troy University campus. The SGA senate voted on and passed the constitution on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
According to the Rotaract Club constitution, “the Rotaract Club of Troy University will be affiliated with Rotary International and the local Troy Rotary Club.”
According to the Rotary International website, its members “unite leaders from all continents, cultures, and occupations to exchange ideas and take action in communities around the world.”
Rotary Clubs are common international organizations in towns and cities.
According to the website, businesses and community members usually assemble to form these clubs in order to serve their community together and provide an awareness of community and its needs. Rotarians seek a common goal: to see their community and world prosper in all areas of life.
“Our most successful and sustainable projects and activities tend to fall within the following areas: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education and growing local economies,” the website said.
Zephaniah Jones, the president of the Troy Rotary Club, composed the newly passed constitution for The Rotaract Club of Troy University.
“My vision and plans behind this constitution are to broaden the awareness of students about Rotaract on Troy’s campus and other campuses, as well as an awareness of community around us,” Jones said.
The constitution for the Rotaract Club of Troy University says that its purpose is specifically “to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.”
