The Troy Trojans women’s tennis team kicked off its season last weekend with a three-day tournament hosted by Georgia Southern.
The first match of the Invitational resulted in a win in doubles play on Friday. Sophomore Louisa Ferrauti and senior Alicia Rodriguez defeated UNC-Asheville’s Madeline Finley and Caroline Sherrer 6-1.
The duo moved on to the next round on Saturday, but fell to Savannah College of Art and Design’s Camille Gbaguidi and Paige Murdock. Ferrauti and Rodriguez responded by beating Georgia Southern 7-5 in a consolation draw.
Ferrauti, Rodriguez and Hannah Seizer competed in singles play. All three won on Friday and lost on Saturday.
Seizer finished third in the tournament after dominating day one with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Valerie Droop of Savannah College. Seizer lost her semifinal contest Saturday against Giula Reipe of Georgia Southern before winning the third-place match against UNC-Asheville’s Kylee Shiplee.
Ferrauti won Friday against Christin Louw of UNC-Asheville 6-4, 6-2. In the only three-set match of the Trojans’ weekend, she lost against Georgia Southern’s Arianne De Winter 6-1, 1-6, 7-6.
Rodriguez defeated Caitlyn Shultz of Savannah College in her first singles match Friday 6-4, 6-2. Mariana Ranzahuer of Georgia Southern defeated Rodriguez on Saturday 6-1, 6-3. Rodriguez played Sunday in a consolation match against Valerie Droop and won 6-1, 6-1.
Georgia Southern’s Arianne De Winter and Mariana Ranzahuer won each of the singles draws.
Troy will return to the courts in Waco, Texas, to compete in the Baylor Under Armour Invitational on Friday, Oct. 7.
