The Senior Class Project is initiated by the Student Government Association’s (SGA) Executive Board for graduating students to make a lasting impact and give back to Troy University. This project was started two years ago by the 96th SGA president.
This year’s annual initiative is to support the Hunger Initiatives fund, which assists students with non-perishable supplies and food.
These contributions will also go towards stocking the Trojan Pantry, the main on-campus resource hub for students and providing backpacks with food in them for local children in need.
“As a senior, you can make a lasting impact through the Senior Class Project,” said Sydney Owen, Troy University’s annual giving officer. “By donating to the Hunger Initiatives Fund, you can directly help your fellow peers and community.
“Your impact as a class will not only help those in need today but also serve as a reminder to future students of the importance of giving back through the Senior Class Project.”
If each student makes a gift of $25.00 or more individually, they will receive an engraved medallion with the Troy University seal to wear during their graduation ceremony.
Students can pick up their medallions in the Office of Development, located in 301 Adams Administration Building, by showing their confirmation email.
For students who are not on Troy’s main campus, medallions will be mailed to their campus.
“It is important for seniors to participate in this project to show their Trojan Pride by giving back to their peers in need,” said Caleb Smith, the executive vice president of SGA and a sophomore risk management and insurance major from Gadsden, Alabama.
“In doing so, they can exhibit their service to our campus by proudly wearing a Senior Class Project medallion at graduation.
“This initiative is a great way for seniors to give back to Troy one last time as an undergraduate student.”
Last year, the Class of 2023 raised $3,561. This year, the SGA Executive Board intends to surpass that goal.
“As Troy University students, we leave our campus filled with new knowledge and experiences all provided by our wonderful campus,” said Betsy Bennet, the president of SGA and a junior human services major from Eufaula, Alabama.
“The Senior Class Project is a way for seniors to leave part of their legacy on our campus and help our school flourish after they graduate.”
On April 22, SGA will have a tent on the John Robert Lewis Quad from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where students can learn more about the project. Students can make a gift until graduation day.
Anyone that feels led to donate can do so by visiting https://troy.scalefunder.com/cfund/project/42165. Students can also call 334-808-6595 or email annualfund@troy.edu for more information.
