SGA puts on the Great Trojan Easter Egg hunt

by Libby Thornton

In honor of Easter, Troy University’s Student Government Association (SGA) held a two day, campus-wide egg hunt, which included three special prize eggs.

There were many small eggs filled with pieces of candy, as treats for students. But the special gold, silver or bronze eggs could earn students a gift card from the campus Barnes and Noble, if turned in to the SGA office by April 6 at 12 p.m. The golden eggs were hidden in less populous, harder to find, spots on campus.

“One of our goals for events on campus is for them to be fun and engaging,” said Amelia Nettles, a junior graphic design major  from Wetumpka, Alabama, and chairwoman of the committee for campus activities. “Events like this can be very sociable, providing students with an outlet to connect with other students.”

Students had two days to search campus for eggs and were able to participate with whatever free time they had between classes.

“The campus activities committee came up with the idea a few weeks ago as a way to brighten up the week during a stressful time of the semester,” said Meagan Ingram, a sophomore accounting major from Helena, Alabama and vice chairwoman of the campus activities committee. “Events like this allow students to find their inner child.”

The event took minimal preparation, making it an easy way for the senate committee group to brighten students’ week.

The committee met the week before to stuff and hide the eggs, and then all they had to do was sit back and wait for the golden eggs to be discovered by three lucky students.

Benjamin Bennett found the silver and bronze eggs and was awarded the gift cards accordingly.
