Slay these styles in the summer sun!

Summer is fast approaching . . .  time for swimsuits, gym shorts and backward ballcaps, right? Wrong. Men, let me provide you with some more fashionable alternatives for the summer.

Most of us are under the impression shorts are for warmer weather, correct? Well, let me be the first to tell you, you can wear pants when it's warm out!

Usually, jeans or corduroys will lead you to sweating buckets if you’re anything like me, but recently my eyes were opened to a cooler alternative. They sell dry-fit pants! I love “Copper & Oak” pants (as I write this article, I am wearing a pair), but they’re a little harder to come by, as their website is down, and there are very few options on Amazon.

I found mine at a thrift store. “Libin” and “G Gradual” are two alternative brands that not only look nice but will keep you cool in warmer climates.

In regards to t-shirts, anything cotton will generally help you air out. Dry-fit is also another option, though that could clash with pants of the same material.

If you simply HAVE to wear gym shorts, be careful with length. You don’t want any that stretch below your knees. I prefer, and I think many people will agree this looks best, shorts that rest just above the knee, or a little below mid-thigh. Anything higher, and you risk showing off some things people generally just don’t want to see.

Cargo shorts are another option! The lengths suggested above apply here as well. Also, you can have too many pockets . . .  four to six should be the limit, Two front, two back, MAYBE two thigh pockets.

A popular style I see frequently among the trendier crowds is plain white shirts with a patterned button-down overit. Usually, Hawaiian or flowery prints are common.

I prefer minimal colors, one or two at most, less distracting to look at, and busy yet subtle patterns. People seem to enjoy very loud colors and patterns. Yes, these are sold, but that doesn’t mean you have to buy them . . .  If you’re looking to catch someone’s eye, dressing sensibly is a good start.

If you aren’t a big fan of button-downs, never fear! Graphic tees are just as cool and trendy. I own many myself and wear them frequently. I recommend lighter colors, to keep yourself cool, so you won’t bake in the sun!

If you don’t want a graphic, plain colors will do just as well! Remember, cotton is one of the best materials for this weather, though with how crazy Alabama’s humidity can get, dry-fit may be better for you.

Finally, some good brands to look into should you heed my advice. I mentioned “Copper & Oak” earlier, as well as “Libin” and “G Gradual”. “Gym Shark” also has some good dry-fit clothing. If you have an Old Navy or Target nearby, both generally have really good t-shirts and shorts to look through.

Despite all this, wear something you’re comfortable in. If you aren’t confident in what you’re wearing, what’s the point? Wasted money and clothes you’ll never wear but the once is never fun.

I hope you’ve all found my advice helpful, and I desperately hope you all have a wonderful summer.
