Dylan Hurst For the second straight time since their last meeting last season, Troy and Jacksonville State ended in a scoreless draw. The soccer game ended in a 0-0 tie as both teams fought through a double overtime. The game was held on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Jacksonville State Soccer Complex. Troy had a few early scoring chances when Trojan defender Lauren Aldrich got two header shots off on goal, but to no avail. Troy came close once again in the 32nd minute when forward Grace Mirly caught a pass from the right wing, but her shot sailed high. Troy managed nine shots in the second half compared to the three first half shots. In the 72nd minute, Troy foward Kendra Cashion collected a loose ball and sent it inside of the net, but the officials ruled her as being offside, so the goal did not count. Troy’s Freshman goalkeeper Acelya Aydogmus recorded her second clean sheet with eight saves for the day. Junior midfielder Maddie Brune and senior defender Claire Taylor were the only Troy players who played the full regulation time. In Friday’s road matchup against Tennessee Tech, Troy fell 2-1 after a loss in overtime. Tennessee Tech scored an early point on a very long shot from Marta Moreno. With only 10 seconds remaining in regulation, Troy junior midfielder Kiersten Edlund shot near the top of the net, past the keeper, to score Troy’s only goal of the game, sending it into overtime. The game ended after a pass from Trojan goalkeeper Miranda Schoening was intercepted and scored by Tech’s Kendall Powell just four minutes into overtime. Troy fell victim to another offside call in the 76th minute as freshman Kate Eubanks sent a shot into the right-side netting of the goal, but the penalty ruled the goal void. Tech outshot the Trojans 13-9 in the game, and both teams had 5 shots on goal. Playing at the University of Alabama Soccer Complex on Sunday, Troy fell 5-0 against the powerful Crimson Tide offense. The Tide’s Gigi Schorr scored a hat trick during the game, while teammate Abbie Boswell scored twice. The match was close, with neither team giving up any room until Schorr landed the game's first goal with 10 minutes left in the first half. She added her second goal of the game six minutes later and scored her third in the 75th minute. Boswell fought off a Trojan defender to give the Tide a 3-0 lead just two minutes into the second half. She was able to score her second goal of the game in the 64th minute. Troy recorded five shots during the game, three of which were on goal. The Trojans’ best scoring opportunity occurred in the 37th minute when Kate Lorenz sent a long shot on goal, but it was deflected wide. The Trojans return to action tomorrow, Sept. 14, as Troy kicks off Sun Belt conference play by hosting the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Kickoff against the Ragin’ Cajuns is set for 7 p.m.
