The Trojans celebrate after walking off against Louisiana.
Over the weekend, the Troy softball team won its first-ever series against Louisiana, which entered 2025 on an 89-series Sun Belt Conference win streak. However, the Trojans were able to take two of three games from the Ragin’ Cajuns at home.
After losing three one-run games and getting walked off twice on the road at ULM, the Trojans bounced back with two walk-off wins of their own in the series.
“I’m super excited to make history today, to my understanding this is our first series win against Louisiana,” said head coach Eric Newell. “We played good this weekend – defensively, I thought we played really well.
“Obviously if you win the first two you want to get the last one, but all in all I can’t complain, and it was a great weekend for us.”
Mia Tidmore finished the weekend 5-for-7, driving in two RBIs. Makaley Boswell went 4-for-13 but crushed a home run and delivered some of the biggest hits of the series.
The Trojans took game one 5-4, walking it off on a Louisiana error in the eighth inning.
After Cassidy Boltz hit a ground ball to shortstop with runners on first and second, the Ragin’ Cajuns tried for a double play but overthrew the first base bag. Boswell was able to race home and give the Trojans the win.
The Trojans needed a big fifth inning to stay in the contest, as they entered the inning down 2-0. Annie Orman teed off on a pitch to kickstart the offense, and Boswell followed it up with a two-run blast of her own to take the lead.
Caiden Oliva provided an insurance run for the Trojans with a home run of her own, annihilating a ball to left-center field for her seventh round-tripper of the season.
While Louisiana was able to score in the seventh to send the game to extra innings, Troy was determined not to lose another close contest.
The two teams played a doubleheader on Saturday, with the Trojans clinching the series win with a 6-5 victory to start the day.
Louisiana took a commanding 4-0 lead in the third inning, but the Trojans were able to claw their way back into the game. McKinnon Howard got Troy on the board with an RBI single to score Tidmore, but the Ragin’ Cajuns got the run back in the top of the fifth inning.
With two outs, Tidmore drove a two-RBI double up the middle to cut the Louisiana lead to 5-3. In the sixth inning, Troy came up big again with two outs. Two walks set the table for Cassidy Boltz, who smacked a double to knot the score up at 5-5.
Boswell called game with a walk-off single that brought Natalie Turner to the plate, handing Troy the series win.
Louisiana avoided the sweep with a 4-1 win in the second game of the doubleheader, controlling the game from start to finish.
Following a midweek game against Alabama State, the Trojans welcome Georgia Southern to the Troy Softball Complex. The Eagles sit atop the Sun Belt Conference standings, and Troy will look to change that with a big series. Game one starts at 6 p.m. on Friday.
