Softball wins six of last eight

Hanna Cooper The Troy softball team wrapped up its last weekend of tournaments before entering conference play this past weekend.The Trojans finished the weekend 4-1 with their only loss coming from No. 13 South Carolina. Troy's offense recorded 22 hits to take a pair of wins Friday afternoon at Eddie C. Moore Field. Leanna Johnson pitched a shutout over Furman before closing out the win over Binghamton. Johnson scattered seven hits over 10 innings of work to lead Troy in the circle. Brooke Echols led the way offensively with four RBIs after hitting a three-run shot against Furman. Troy had two three-run innings to power itself past Binghamton in the afternoon game. Kynsley Rae Blasingame's shutout performance combined with Troy's powerful bats led the Trojans to a victory over Incarnate Word, 9-0, after the Trojans fell to No. 13 South Carolina, 10-2, on Saturday. Katie Webb led Troy’s offensive push, going three-for-four with three RBIs on the day. Blasingame earned her first win of the season after scattering three hits in four innings of work. "I was really proud of the way we bounced back after our loss in the first game," Head Coach Beth Mullins said. "I am really proud of both Kynsley and Peyton for throwing a combined shutout today." Troy used a pair of big innings to push past Penn, 8-3, in the Sunday afternoon finale of the USF Invitational. Troy scored four runs in the third and sixth innings to finish off the weekend. Troy hit three more home runs with two from Brooke Echols and one by Kaylee Hussey. Echols now has three home runs on the season. Starting all five games, Allie Miller earned her first start of the season. Miller finished the weekend four-for-11 with a double and two walks. Katie Webb led the Trojans offensively going 10-for-17 with three doubles and six RBIs on the weekend. Leanna Johnson came into the weekend leading the nation in strikeouts. The freshman added 19 more strikeouts this weekend and helped the Trojans pick up three more wins. Troy is back in action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as the Trojans host Samford in a midweek matchup.
