Troy Softball played host to the Troy Invitational this past weekend. The invitational lasted over a span of three days.
The Trojans had a strong start to the invitational. They handled both Kennesaw State and Murray State on Friday with 6-1 and 4-2 victories.
Jade Sinness recorded her first home run of the season to start off the bottom of the third against Kennesaw State. Anslee Finch also recorded her first home run of the season to start off the bottom of the sixth against Murray State.
Along with her home run, Finch recorded three RBIs on the day. Taylor McKinney led the Trojans at the plate going 4-for-5 on the day.
Libby Baker and Haley Pittman pitched against Kennesaw State and combined for a total of nine strikes while only allowing one run. Leanna Johnson allowed two runs against Murray State but recorded 12 strikeouts.
Troy continued its dominance on day two, sweeping both Murray State and Kennesaw State with 6-0 and 7-2 victories.
Baker, Pittma, and Olivia Cato combined to toss a shutout against Murray State. Cato was credited with her first collegiate win.
Johnson tossed seven strikeouts against Kennesaw State, dropping her season ERA to 0.68 on the season. Pittman took over for her in the seventh to close out the game.
McKinney had herself a game as she went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with a pair of RBIs and a monstrous home run against Kennesaw State.
The Trojans fell on the final day against Kennesaw State with a 1-0 score. Both teams played a heavily defensive game until Kiera Cooper launched one over the wall in the fifth inning.
Cato recorded her first loss of the season. The Trojan tossed four strikeouts but was substituted after allowing a home run in the fifth. Baker finished the game.
Troy hits the road for the first time this season with a mid-week tilt at Mercer on Wednesday before traveling to Tallahassee, Fla., this weekend for the Unconquered Invitational hosted by Florida State.
