Spring is the worst season

I’ve hated spring ever since I was a kid.

One fateful spring, my church held an Easter egg hunt in the local park. I did not want to go but my mom forced me to, nonetheless. It was fun for a while, but then my eyes began to itch. I rubbed my eyes to no avail. Eventually, my allergies got so bad that my vision blurred over entirely, and my eyes burned so badly that I could not see.

As I got older, my allergies stuck with me. It eventually became an Easter Sunday tradition that my allergies would hit me so hard that I would take a Benadryl and fall asleep on my Nana’s couch.

I know I am not alone in thinking that spring is the worst season. I know this to be true because I am not alone in having seasonal allergies that are borderline debilitating at times.

Although, allergies are not the only reason why I hate spring.

First off, the weather is extra temperamental in the spring. The weather swings back and forth between hot and cold, dry and humid. Pollen aside, the changing temperatures alone make people sick.

It’s also challenging to know what to wear. Even if you check the weather forecast, the day may start at a cool 53 degrees and end the day with a warm 76. If you wear one thing, you’ll be too hot, but if you wear something else, you’ll be too cold.

Yes, the flowers and warm weather are nice, but do you know who else loves flowers and warm weather? Bugs! Spring is when all the bugs magically reappear. Once the bugs come out, I’m running away from wasps and swatting at mosquitoes until winter rolls around and makes them disappear again. When I’m back home, I can’t even walk to the mailbox without getting a bug bite unless I put on bug spray.

As I mentioned previously, my seasonal allergies drive my hatred for spring. I don’t get just a couple of sniffles and sneezes. I get pretty much every symptom there is and get them all to the maximum degree. If I don’t take medicine, then I cannot get through the day. A lot of the time my meds don’t even last all day, and I find myself with itchy eyes by 7 o’clock.

Even if you don’t have allergies, pollen is still a nuisance. It gets everywhere. It covers your car, and you get yellow dust all over you.

To top it all off, spring is tornado season. If you manage to survive all the sickness and the swarms of bugs, you then have to face one of nature’s most deadly natural disasters. Every spring, we hide away praying that our houses won’t be ripped to shreds and our lives won’t be taken from us. Not to mention that global climate change has been increasing the number of tornadoes we get every spring.

When spring rolls around each year, I find myself enjoying the first few days of warm weather and I smile at the first couple blooms, but then the dread sets in. In the blink of an eye, my car has turned yellow, I’m sneezing non-stop, and everyone is talking about a tornado warning.

Spring truly is my least favorite season.
