A Troy University student has made history by becoming the youngest member appointed to the Pike County Board of Education.
Justin Davis, a senior criminal justice major from Troy who graduated from Pike County High School and obtained an associate’s degree from Enterprise State Community College, was appointed as the District 3 councilman to the board in July at 21 years old. He will fill the position until the next election in 2020.
“It is such a blessing that they see something in me that I don’t see in myself,” Davis said. “This appointment definitely wasn’t expected, but it is a blessing.”
As a Troy native, Davis said he hopes he can help better the Pike County school system during his time on the board.
“I don’t know what my mark is going to be yet, but I will make it,” he said.
Davis graduated from the police academy in July and now works as a police officer with the Brundidge Police Department.
“I want to be a role model to kids in the community, to show them that you can do anything, regardless of your age,” Davis said. “If you have the right mindset, you can do anything.”
Davis, who is also a part-time pastor, said his family is an important part of his life.
“I want the parents to know that they have chosen a great school system,” Davis said. “Students should capitalize on what the school has to offer.”
