Lots of people talk about starting a podcast, but only a few make that dream come true.
Altwayne Bedward, a junior communications major from Westmoreland, Jamaica, is one of those people.
Wanting to be able to express his opinions on different things, Bedward created his podcast “Al in All.”
“Initially, it was just an opportunity to discuss things I had interests in, mainly regarding the prominent track and field landscape in Jamaica,” Bedward said. “At the same time, I didn’t want to limit anything I felt like talking about, hence the name, ‘Al in All.’”
He was inspired to start this podcast in his first year at Texas State University. Having been injured, Bedward had some free time and a lot of passion for the sport he wanted to share.
The inaugural episode of “Al in All” opens the podcast with an interview with Jevaughn Powell, a silver medalist in the 2022 World Athletics Championship for the 4x400mrelay.
However, the podcast sometimes diverts away from track and field. Some episodes discuss other subjects such as celebrity obsessions or red flags.
This podcast is not only an outlet for Bedward. It has also made a significant impact on his life as well.
“Upon making videos, having strangers comment and world record holders repost, it really gave me the confidence to decide this was the path I wanted to go down and made me sure that I had the talent to do it,” Bedward said.
This podcast helped him to find a passion of his, and he was able to prove to himself that it was the right decision.
Bedward has taken a hiatus from “Al in All.” Since transferring from Texas State , he has lost the space and tools he needs to create a high-quality show.
“I believe anything I’m doing should be done at a high level, and I don’t want to decrease the quality of my videos and my podcast because I don’t have proper facilities and equipment here to do so,” said Bedward.
His latest episode was uploaded on Aug. 23, 2023. He hopes to start his show back up in the future.
