STUDENT RESOURCES ON CAMPUS

Updated: Aug 23

Troy University offers a variety of free services for all students

Troy University offers a wide variety of free services to all students, such as the Trojan Pantry, Library Services and the Eldrige Center for Student Success.

The Trojan Pantry is an on-campus resource that offers nonperishable food, school supplies, and personal hygiene products. It is located in the Trojan Village 200 dorm and open to all students.

“We understand the cost of living and how it’s expensive these days,” said Lauren Cochran, Coordinator of Civic Engagement. “We want to use the Trojan Pantry as a way to support students and for them to know there is a resource available for them.

“We just want this to be a resource utilized and accessible to students. We don't want to see students not be able to continue their education because of a lack of access to basic needs.”

The Trojan Pantry’s primary intent is to bring awareness to the food insecurity amongst both local and national levels.

Students can visit the pantry by walk-in or by appointment. The Trojan Pantry is open every Monday from 3:30-5:00 p.m. and every Friday from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Another service available to students is library services. This includes the online library database, giving students access to over 250 databases covering numerous topics. These databases consist of articles, images, videos, eBooks, reports and newspapers.

One of the most popular resources utilized by students is the Interlibrary Loan, which allows students to borrow items from other Troy libraries if Troy’s main campus does not own a copy. Laptops and Chromebooks are also available for students to loan for a week at a time.

“The online resources provided by the library contain so much useful information that can help students in their coursework,” said Rachel Hooper, head of public services. “These are good, reputable resources that are trustworthy compared to general information you may find online.

“Knowing how to use the resources is so beneficial for students.”

Eldridge Hall houses the John W. Schmidt Center for Student Success offers a wide variety of free services to students, including adaptive needs, trio student support, peer-to-peer tutoring, career counselors and a computer lab. Trio is a family funded program to assist students who have a documented disability, are a first-generation student, or have a low-income base.

Luke Jones, a first-year academic advisor at Eldridge, elaborates more on why students should take advantage of these resources.

“There’s a spot here for everyone,” Jones said. “No student that walks through these doors will be turned away from these services.

“We're here to foster student success.”
