Students dance to a variety of music selections at UAC's Silent Disco.
To end the first day of classes for the spring semester, Troy University Activities Council (UAC) put on a silent disco event for all students to attend at Elm Street Gym.
As students walked in, they were able to choose a headset to listen to a variety of tunes.
“We normally like to kick off the school year with this --or the semester with it -- because it's one of our most popular events,” said UAC’s Activities Coordinator Julia Parker, a senior hospitality and tourism major from Mobile, Alabama. “We like to do it to have fun coming back and bringing everybody back in a good mood.
“We just want everybody to have a place to go and hang out afterwards and for everybody to come together -- ust an event for all students to be able to enjoy.”
There were three music stations to choose from. While one station was for pop music and another for rap, one station in particular was designated for students’ requests.
“Different students with different cultures can just come together here, and they just have a good time,” said Sara Quiceno, a sophomore nursing major from Birmingham, Alabama. “I think it's important when you're stressed out, especially on the first day where you don't know anybody.
”This is a good time to meet people.”
Throughout the night, songs such as “Just Wanna Rock” by Lil Uzi Vert, “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen, “Get It Sexyy” by Sexyy Red and “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga were played.
A few international hits were also included in the playlist.
“My favorite part was when all the people were dancing together,” said Vector Harnechoald, an international business major from France. “It's very cool to watch and be a part of because we don't have that in France.
“I will definitely go to more UAC events to meet new people and have fun.”
Having different music channels allows everyone to listen to what they like.
“Pop is my favorite,” Quiceno said. “I just like all the different music they have and all the different options for whoever doesn't want to listen to a certain song.
“I can just change the tune whenever, and I always come with my friends, so, it's always a good time.”
Looking ahead for the rest of the semester, UAC intends to bring back its most popular events, like DIY Night and Bingo Night, while also having a few new ones.
“We like to do so many different events,” Parker said. “We will always have something that everybody can come to to have fun and feel a part of.”
