Troy Campus’ Recreation Center, also called the Rec Center, held a game and trivia night that was open to all students. During the stress of midterms and all the assignments that fall the week before spring break, the Rec Center wanted to hold a night of fun and relaxation.

The game night event offered many different activities and foods. Board games were set out for anyone to use, including Uno and Pictionary. The buffet spread included pizza, fruit and beverages. Snow cones were also provided by SnoBallers, a local snow cone company.

“This is a student engagement event,” said Director of Campus Recreation Matthew Pisarski. “We’re trying to get them to have a good time before they head off to spring break.

“This is a different type of event than our normal ones.  We’re trying to get students who don’t normally come to work out to come and see us.”

One of the activities offered was trivia via Kahoot, which was held by Pisarski. Using the Kahoot code, students could login and participate in the games. Topics ranged from the history of Troy University to general sports trivia.

After winning a game, students had the option to pick from a variety of prizes, including an umbrella, a foam sword or a t-shirt that were provided by Troy University’s Office of Development.

“I joined my friend, and we teamed up to play trivia about Troy,” said Megan Cueno, a freshman marketing major from Pace, Florida. “We lost horrifically, but I had fun.”

The Rec Center is free for any student to use, but they must have a key fob to enter. The Rec Center offers a variety of workout equipment, basketball and volleyball courts, fitness classes and intramural sports. On some nights, like this one, it offers free events for students.

“Events like these are important for student engagement,” said Graduate Assistant of Competitive Sports Mary Gainey. “If students have never been in here before, they can come in, play games and get a feel for the Rec.”

As for future events, the Rec Center is planning on hosting a free stress reliever event on May 6, including snow cones, shoulder massages and a sunset yoga class on the pool deck.
