The words “game night” either evoke memories of family arguments or excite people for a social hour with friends. For the International Student Cultural Organization (ISCO), the latter is the attitude they bring to their board game events.

On Wednesday, ISCO held a game night in Patterson Hall as their first event of the semester. The board games were up for grabs at the event, allowing anyone to play and make friends. Some games stimulated lively conversations all the while challenging people to complete tasks together.

In small groups, students were able to connect with one another on a more personal level.

“A lot of students tend to go to the bigger events on campus, but having an intimate conversation with one other person is nice,” said ISCO Financial Advisor Nautica Morgan, a senior biomedical science major from Jack, Alabama.

With these events, ISCO allows for international and domestic students to connect with and learn about one another and their cultures. The organization lets people of other cultures share their stories with students from the United States.

“It allows you to meet people who you may not get to know in other social situations; it just brings people together,” said Jasmeen Hoque, a junior exercise physiology major from Montgomery, Alabama, who serves on the ISCO executive board as co-chair of digital marketing.

“It’s really fun to hang out and play with new people,” said Vrund Shah, a computer science graduate student with a concentration in artificial intelligence from Ahmedabad, Gujarat in India.

He attended the game night, participating in group discussions and challenges.

ISCO will be holding other activities in the coming weeks. Follow @isco_troyu on Instagram to stay informed about upcoming events.
