Students of the College of Health and Human Services will travel to Costa Rica during spring break to take a special part in the Central American Games.
This trip will serve as a study abroad trip for all students in attendance.
The games will take place in San Jose, Costa Rica this year in which games such as speed skating, boxing and karate will be featured, many of which TROY students will work.
“This is an outstanding way for our students to get real-world experience, as well as share techniques we use in our country that are not in widespread practice in some other parts of the world,” said Dr. Amanda Benson, chair of the department.
“This is a chance for our students to both do meaningful academic work and gain exposure into life in Central America.”
These study abroad trip is sponsored by the collaboration between Troy University and the Universidad de Iberoamerica, a Costa Rican partner of the University. .
Students involved in the experience include Monica Bates, a junior athletic training major from Wapakoneta, Oh.; Hannah Dunn, a junior athletic training major from Tallassee; Camille Forte, a sophomore athletic training major from Madison; Christina Brown, a junior rehabilitation major from Auburn; Haley Danner, a junior social work major from Ashford; Tandy Harvell, a junior social work major from Troy; JoAnna Hernandez, a junior social work major from Dothan; MaKayla stone, a junior social work major from Opelika; and Stevon Douglas, a senior sport management eTroy student from Pembroke Pines, Fl.
The students will return on March 15.
