The end of the semester is rapidly approaching, and that means summer is on its way. While some students are out of class for three months, it can be difficult to occupy themselves during the upcoming free time.
If students aren’t already occupied with a summer job, now is the perfect time to find somewhere new to work. For some students, summer is the time to search for internships related to their major.
“I’m staying in Troy and working,” said Fatima Touzani, a sophomore music major from Northport, Alabama. “I’m working at two separate band camps over the summer, and it’ll be fun.”
A lot of students travel to new places over the break, with the beaches near Mobile, Alabama, and Panama City, Florida being popular hotspots. The beach isn’t the only place students travel to though – some travel to new states and even new countries.
“I’m going to Santos, Brazil with my church group back home,” said Anna-Brooke Rainey, a sophomore English major from Centre, Alabama. “We’ll be there for about two weeks, and I’m excited to meet new people, try new foods and listen to some good music.”
If traveling is out of the budget, there are plenty of things to do with friends and family over the summer. Getting together for the Fourth of July, having a BBQ, going to see summer blockbusters and even just going for a drive are all fun ways to spend time with the ones you love.
“I’ll be hanging out with my friend,” said Walker Duncan, a sophomore graphic design major from Warrior, Alabama. “We’re going to have a great time together while we stay in Troy.”
Summer is a great time to get invested in a new hobby. Reading a new book, writing and journaling, playing a new video game or even getting into art are all options for ways to make the most of your time.
Despite summer coming in soon, students still have to power through finals week and make it out the other side. With their heads held high, students can push through finals to finally put their summer plans to action.
