Just one week after winning the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, Troy guard Tayton Conerway took his game to new heights. Two stellar games brought his point average in conference play to 19.2 on 62.7% shooting.
Conerway averaged 18 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals on the road against Appalachian State and Marshall to take home the award but put on a show for fans in Trojan Arena.
Although the Trojans dropped two contests against Texas State and Arkansas State, Conerway dominated in every aspect of the game. He extended his stretch of games with 15 or more points to four over the homestand.
The Burleson, Texas native celebrated his birthday in style with a career-high 32 points against the Red Wolves. Before the halftime buzzer sounded, Conerway had already eclipsed his precious career high in points – scoring 24 in just one half.
He is the first Trojan to score over 30 points in a game since 2019 when Jordan Varnado dropped 33.
In the 84-78 loss to Arkansas State, Conerway shot 66% from the field and went 12-for-15 from the charity stripe. He piled on seven assists, four steals and four rebounds to round out a herculean effort. Conerway also led the Trojans in scoring against Texas State. He scored 15 points in a 74-73 loss and was dynamic for the Trojans.
Conerway was a menace on the defensive side of the ball, racking up five steals and two blocks against the Bobcats. The 6-3 point guard also dished out four assists.
The Trojans look to get back on the road, with games at ULM and South Alabama. Conerway will attempt to guide Troy to more road wins like he did at App State and Marshall.
Tipoff in Monroe, Louisiana is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
