The ‘Saga’ keeps going: Part 2 review of the Trojan Dining Hall

The Trojan Dining Hall prepares new food each week to satisfy busy and hungry students, but if you’re just not feeling the new dishes, you can always count on the regulars: pizza, salad and, of course, the dessert bar.

Pizza! Pizza!:

Initially, the choice of pizza was limited to a few dry pieces up front, but one employee working the pizza ovens was kind and reassured Katie Miller that the pizza would be out soon. Miller grabbed one of her favorite foods — pizza — for lunch. One piece, she said, consisted of chicken and spinach, and the other plain pepperoni.

“The spinach and chicken pizza looks really good,” Miller said. “It was fresh out of the oven as soon as I got up there.”

The pepperoni on another piece looked as if it were still sizzling and crisp; the appearance of both pizzas was extremely appetizing, Miller said.

“Everything is really warm,” she said. “The crust is huge compared to the pizza, which I really like.”

Both of the pizzas, Miller said, tasted “fantastic.”

“Everything was prepared so fresh, and it was clear that each ingredient was meticulously placed to create a wonderful pallet of food,” Miller said.

The Pepperoni Lover’s calzone Whitney Cale grabbed was “OK looking,” but she said it looked a tad bit old, as if it had been sitting out a while.

“The crust is a little chewy, and the flavor isn’t too strong. It’s a little bland,” Cale said.

Miller rated her pizza a solid 9 out of 10, with a service rating of 10 out of 10. However, Cale assigned a 6.5 out of 10 to her calzone.

Lettuce explore

the salads:

Cale chose the salad of the day as her main dish for the lunch review, a meal topped with grilled pineapple and sesame chicken.

“The salad is a great size,” Cale said. “The lady that fixed it was very engaging and nice.” Cale said she noticed how fresh the lettuce was and that she admired the succulence of the grilled pineapple.

“The pineapple is very juicy and fresh,” she said. “It tastes great!

“The chicken has a really nice flavor, but it’s a little tough. I’m not sure what the dressing is called, but it’s OK. I would probably get a different dressing next time.”

Cale rated her salad an 8.5 out of 10.

A piece of cake:

The desert bar was the final item on the review for the writers to investigate.

Miller said she went with a fudge brownie, while Cale said she chose the dessert of the day, a Southern Banana Cream pudding.

“The brownie looks appealing. It looks as if they had just put out a fresh batch when I went up there,” Miller said. However, after further investigation, Miller said it was clear that the brownie was not a brand new item.

“This brownie isn’t warm, but they never really are,” Miller said. “I would rate my brownie a 6 out of 10. This is based off of the fudge taste and the outside edges being crispy and tasty.”

Cale said her banana pudding didn’t seem promising at first, as she said it was the last bowl that was standing tentatively in the middle of the display table, and possessed little food at all.

However, after a few bites, Cale was convinced.

“The taste is excellent,” she said. “It wasn’t too sweet or too mild. The bananas seemed fresh, and the wafers were neither hard nor soggy.”

The banana pudding alone received a 9.5 out of 10 from Cale.

Overall experience:

After careful consideration, the writers concluded that the regular food items in the dining hall were granted an 8.5 out of 10, while the service remains, they said, “impeccable” within the establishment.

Keep up the great work, Saga!
