Top finishers pace Troy track and field teams in Auburn

The Troy track and field team boasted a number of top finishers in Auburn over the weekend against some of the south’s top programs at the War Eagle Invitational.

Troy was one of the eight schools from Alabama that took part in the two-day meet in preparation for the upcoming conference championships.

Several Trojans outperformed their season bests among the competition. Zach Douglas took the top spot once again in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 18.13 meters to remain the top thrower in the conference.

Myles Charley took the top spot in the meet as well as the Sun Belt standings. Charley topped his season best long jump with a leap of 7.13 meters. Charley ranks among the top 25 in the respective qualifying region for the NCAA Championships.

Troy’s duo of 110-meter hurdlers also set personal bests, as Garrison Floyd and Jason Iles finished in fifth and 10th, respectively. Floyd finished in 14.24 seconds with Iles following closely with 14.78 seconds.

The women’s squad also had a strong showing in the hurdles, with four Trojans setting personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles. Alexis Garrett’s 14.17 was good enough for ninth place in both the meet and Sun Belt standings. Sydney Henderson, Aleeah Stigarll and Riley Schwietz finished in 15th, 16th and 17th place, respectively.

Troy track and field gears up for the renowned Penn Relays in Philadelphia, the final meet before the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships. The three-day meet starts today and features the top talent from across the nation.
