In their first meeting of the new semester, Student Government Association members said they want to communicate more with students.
The first step to achieving this is by holding town hall meetings, the first of which will be next Thursday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m. in Patterson Hall.
Students can come meet SGA members and ask any questions they may have about student or campus life.
“This is something that I think is super important for the student body,” said Ashli Morris, a senior political science major from Athens and SGA president.
The meeting will begin with a state of the union address delivered by Morris, telling students what the SGA plans to do this semester.
“When I was campaigning, a lot of students said, ‘I don’t feel like SGA communicates enough about what they’re doing,’ ” Morris said. “This is one of the main ways we (SGA) will be able to distribute that information.”
Morris said that she wants to have two town hall meetings a semester to inform students on what the SGA is doing for them (students) and gain feedback from students.
“We really want students to get into the habit of coming to this regularly,” Morris said.
SGA elections will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 6, through the link in Trojan email.
Seats for residents of Cowart hall, Gardner hall, Hamil hall, Newman center, Pace and special housing (Hillcrest, Paden, and the Honors Cottage) are still available.
Those interested in running can apply through Trojan Connection until Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 4 p.m. There is a $10 application fee.
