Track and field team stays strong at the Alabama Relays

The Troy track and field team shone bright at the John Mitchell Alabama Relays, despite a short power outage on Friday, March 20.

 

During the first day of the meet at Tuscaloosa, Troy had three top-10 finishes from senior Paige McMillan, sophomore Cameron Rice, and the women’s 4×200-meter relay team.

 

McMillan placed fourth in the 100-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 12.17 seconds. She also was a part of the relay team that placed ninth at 1:39.54.

 

Senior Alexus Cobbs, junior Cameia Alexander and freshman Sydney Wright were also members of the relay team.

 

On the men’s side, Rice placed ninth in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 49.25 seconds. He finished 10th place the week before in the same event.

 

In the women’s 5k, junior Julia Ostendorf led her teammates with a time of 17:55.55. Sophomore Mikayla Hodges and freshman Sara Zylstra were about a minute behind with 18:20.57 and 18:47.63 finishes.

 

On Saturday, March 21, freshman Corina Cox earned first place in the discus throw after reaching the mark of 52.28 meters.

 

Wright, who was named Sun Belt Athlete of the Week after her first-place finish at the CCU Invitational, placed fourth in the 100-meter dash. She had a time of 14.71 seconds.

 

Fellow Trojan freshman Garrison Floyd took home sixth place in the men’s hurdles after he finished in 12.03 seconds.

 

In other women’s field events, sophomore Aleeah Stigarll made a 5.51-meter jump in the long jump and freshman Jaevyn Worthham had a 40.62-meter discus throw.

 

Sophomore Dallas Worthy finished the 400-meter dash in 56.56 seconds. Sophomore Riley Schwietz and Lacey Marcus competed in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing at 15.12 and 15.69, respectively.

 

The track and field team will compete next at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.

 

The UNF Spring Break invitational will take place on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28.
