The Troy track and field team turned in another solid performance to continue the indoor season, including two first-place finishes.
The South Alabama Indoor Invitational saw Biniosa Ezukuse take a second straight first-place finish in the shot put as the Trojans had seven podium finishes. Keith Warner – running unattached – won the men’s 5000m with a time of 14:50.82.
“We got ourselves into a position where we’re seeing improvement week-to-week,” said director of track and field Marc Davis to Troy Athletics. “Going into the last segment of the indoor season, things are clicking at the right time.”
Warner’s time shattered his previous top time from 2024 by nearly a minute.
Just a week after winning the shot put at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, Ezukuse took home another first place finish with a 14.26m throw. She also set a personal best in the weight throw at 18.05m, good enough to place second.
Joy Edward also saw another podium finish in the shot put – her 13.92m throw put her right behind Ezukuse in second place.
Shanyah Washington finished the 60m dash in just 7.53 seconds to earn second place, and she was part of another second-place finish in the 4x400m relay. Washington, Catherine Forbes, Aaliyah Murphy and Katy Schwietz finished the relay with a time of 3:59.01.
In the 60m hurdles, Faith Jones placed third with a time of 8.65s. With her performance, she shaved over a tenth of a second off her previous personal best of 8.76s.
On the men’s side, Altwayne Bedford earned a podium finish after recording a 17.42m throw to place third in shot put.
Plenty of personal records were shattered as well – the Trojans set over 10 new high-water marks.
Forbes and Imari Johnson each set two personal bests. Johnson had a 7.79s finish in the 60m and a 24.75s finish in the 200m while Forbes ran the 200m in 24.97s and the 400m in 57.83s.
The Trojans continue the indoor season on Saturday with yet another trip up to Birmingham. The Green and Gold Invitational will be held on Feb. 8.
