As anticipation rises for the Trojans’ season opener against Nevada this Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium, fans 21 and older can also anticipate their first taste of Trojan Ale.
Trojan Ale is a session blonde ale and is Troy’s first officially licensed craft beer. This partnership was made possible by longtime supporters Horn Beverage and Folklore Brewing and Meadery.
"We are incredibly excited to launch the first officially licensed Troy beer with the debut of Trojan Ale," said Athletics Director Brent Jones . “I am extremely grateful for the support of Jim and Donna Horn and the entire team with Horn Beverage for helping bring this exciting opportunity to fruition.
This creative partnership with Horn Beverage and Folklore Brewing has allowed us to provide another opportunity for our fans to show their Trojan Pride while also supporting local businesses.”
Trojan Ale is a 12-ounce 5.2% ABV beverage. Trojan fans will not only be able to purchase Trojan Ale at football games, but it will soon be available in stores and restaurants throughout the Wiregrass region.
“I think the Troy students will enjoy it mainly for the name just because it’s something new for the students to try,” said Isabella Warwick, assistant general manager at Baumhower’s Victory Grille.
With the release of Trojan Ale, Baumhower’s Victory Grille is not worried about the students trying to drink underage because of their protocols.
“We ID everyone under the age of thirty, and our bartenders are trained to ensure that we were not serving underage people and to ensure we were not over-serving anyone," Warwick said.
“Horn Beverage is proud to partner with Troy University and Folklore to bring Trojan Ale to our market," said Donna Horn, the president of Horn Beverage Company. "I want to especially thank Danny Hughes with Horn Beverage for leading this project.
“Horn Beverage is proud of our relationship with Troy Athletics, which dates to the creation of the Troy Football Radio Network. As an alumna of Troy University, it is always exciting for me to be able to participate in their success and growth."
Folklore, established in 2013, is Dothan's oldest brewery in operation. They produce a variety of beers, meads and seltzers. Folklore is home to two Alabama locations in the Wiregrass area: Dothan and Enterprise.
The Horn Beverage Company has been around since the early 1980s. Horn Beverage is a wholesale beer distributor, and it is a family-owned and operated business.
A second crafted beer is expected to debut during this year’s basketball season. All sales of Trojan Ale will directly benefit the university and athletics.
