Trojan softball wins one of two games at home

The Troy softball team picked up a win in a fall doubleheader on Friday, cruising past Gulf Coast State College 7-3 and finishing with a 1-1 tie against Auburn University at Montgomery.

Sophomore pitcher Peyton Glover picked up the win in game one for the Trojans (4-1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt), allowing no runs during her six innings in the circle.

Gulf Coast State opened the game facing the Trojans’ sophomore pitcher Claire Graves, who conceded three runs and four hits to the Commodores.

Gulf Coast held this lead until the Trojans found their offensive rhythm in the bottom of the fourth. Troy scored three runs to tie the game after sophomore outfielder Stephanie Snyder drove in an RBI double, followed by an RBI single by junior infielder Cassidy McDilda.

Troy broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, as junior and freshman infielders Erica Davis and Katie Webb each drove in an RBI double. Those runs gave Troy the 7-3 lead it would hold until the game’s end.

Davis led the Trojan offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, one of which was an RBI double. Payton Carpenter was charged with the pitching loss for the Commodores.

In game two, the Trojans faced the Warhawks of AUM. Both teams had trouble putting the ball into play; each team recorded five hits. The only scores of the game came in the third and fourth innings.

AUM got on the board from an unearned run in the top of the third inning. Troy matched the Warhawks’ run after junior outfielder Carli Kayler scored on a wild pitch.

The remainder of the game was scoreless, leaving the teams in a 1-1 draw after seven innings.

Claire Graves and Peyton Glover shared the circle throughout the game, pitching four and three innings respectively.

Troy will close out the fall season on Friday, Oct. 21, when it hosts Southern Union State Community College in a doubleheader. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex.
