Trojan Volleyball loses fourth straight match against Texas State at home

The Troy volleyball team (9-16) fell to Texas State in four sets Sunday, Oct. 27, at home to extend its losing streak to four matches.

 

The Trojans forced a fourth set by winning the second set but in the end the Bobcats came out on top (25-15, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19).

 

“You have got to give Texas State credit,” Troy head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. “They put more effort into defense.”

 

Junior outside hitter Marija Zelenovic led Troy with 17 kills and a team-high of 23 digs while sophomore outside hitter Blair Winston finished 14 kills.

 

Freshman setter Bruna Souza recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 18 digs while Trojan sophomore libero Ali Dowdall finished with 18 digs.

 

“She did a nice job today,” Kirkpatrick said. “I thought she did well with the exception of a couple of errors. It was her first true game experience and she did a nice job.”

 

Texas State out blocked Troy in total team blocks with nine to the Trojans’ five.

 

Troy came out flat in the first set falling 25-15 but rallied in the second set winning it 25-19 and making the overall match score 1-1.

 

The third set, which the Bobcats took 25-23, swung the overall match for Texas State as Troy lost momentum and dropped the fourth and final set 25-19.

 

This Sunday defeat is Troy’s fourth straight loss, a losing streak that the Trojans, began with losing to Texas State on the road on Oct. 18.

 

Troy’s next match is Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. on the road against Louisiana-Lafayette.
