Trojans coast past Chanticleers: Troy wins both games against Coastal Carolina over the weekend

Hanna Cooper The Troy women’s basketball team’s sweep of the Sun Belt Conference continued last weekend as the Trojans picked up a pair of wins over Coastal Carolina. On Friday, Troy posted its first 100-point game of the season to move into first place in the Sun Belt East. Troy’s 45-point margin of victory was its largest margin of victory in a Sun Belt Conference game since beating Georgia Southern by 41 back on Dec. 29, 2017. “It was a really fun night in Trojan Arena,” Head Coach Chanda Rigby said. “I thought we had a really good crowd; the players really played to the crowd and the energy in here. “Our press was working really well, we created a lot of turnovers and got a lot of energy from that. Where I think we really got started off on the right foot was with rebounding. We came into the game and people were just rebounding and rebounding like Troy basketball, and so we built more momentum and more energy.” The Trojans raced out to a 25-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Troy outscored the Chanticleers in three of the four frames of the contest and held Coastal Carolina to fewer than 20 points in all four frames. Friday’s momentum rolled into Trojan Arena on Saturday where the Trojans downed Coastal Carolina, 84-53, to close out the weekend. Similar to Friday night, Troy raced out to an early 15-4 lead and never looked back. Alexus Dye recorded her 10th double-double of the season moving her into sole possession of most double-doubles in the country. “We can’t overlook the fact that Alexus Dye is now leading the nation in double-doubles,” Rigby said. “So, in all of the United States of America, we have Troy University up there #1 in double doubles, and that’s really a great statistic, and we are really proud of that.” Last weekend brought Troy’s homestand to a close. The Trojans will now hit the road for back-to-back weekends beginning with a trip to Boone, North Carolina.Friday’s game will start at 5 p.m. with Saturday’s game starting at 3 p.m.
