Trojans cruise past Vandals

The Troy Trojans defeated conference foe Idaho, cruising to a 34-13 victory and its first 4-1 start in ten years.

The Trojans (4-1, 2-0 Sun Belt) took on the Vandals (2-3, 0-1 Sun Belt) in a game that turned into an offensive showcase for the Trojans. Troy recorded 530 yards of total offense while holding the Vandals to 255.

Idaho was able to get on the board first with two first quarter field goals by senior kicker Austin Rehkow, at 21 and 42 yards out. Troy found an answer with junior quarterback Brandon Silvers, who hit junior receiver Tevaris McCormick for a 36-yard score.

Troy reached the endzone twice more in the first half—Silvers found junior receiver Emanuel Thompson for a score through the air and Chunn punched in the score on the ground. The first half came to a close with the Trojans in front 21-6.

The first score of the second half came 14 seconds after the kickoff, as Silvers found junior receiver John Johnson for a 60-yard touchdown. Ryan Kay, the senior kicker, then extended the Trojan lead with a pair of field goals.

Troy held a 34-6 lead as the 3rd quarter came to a close.

Idaho was able to tack on one last score before the game ended as junior quarterback Matt Linehan found senior tight end Trent Cowan for a 22-yard score through the air. After Rehkow’s PAT, the score stood 34-13, where it would remain until the game’s end.

Silvers went 31-for-42 through the air with 373 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Jordan Chunn also led the Trojan offense with 137 yards on 22 touches and one touchdown.

Linehan went 13-for-34 for the Vandals with one score and two interceptions.
