While the college football season has come to a close, the chance for talent to shine and draft stocks to rise is still up in the air, as various All-Star games take place across the country. Five Troy seniors were selected to play in three different games, including offensive linemen Kyle Wilborn and Cody Woodiel, linebacker Kanorris Davis, running back Shawn Southward and safety Brynden Trawick.
Southward and Woodiel traveled to Tucson, Ariz., on Jan. 11 to compete in the 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game. Last year’s inaugural game featured six NFL draft picks and 61 other players who received invitations to NFL training camps. Southward became the seventh player in Troy history to top the 1,000-yard rushing mark in a season after he tallied 1,012 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2012. The Florence, Ala. native finished his career with 33 rushing touchdowns, which was just one shy of the school record, and topped the 100-yard mark four times in 2012, the most by a Troy player since 2004.
Woodiel, a native of Hernando, Miss., started all 12 games for the Trojans in 2012 and played 800 snaps for a Troy offensive line that finished 25th in the NCAA allowing just 1.25 sacks per game. Woodiel graded out at 85 percent on the season, including four 90-plus marks against Mississippi State, North Texas, Tennessee and Navy.
Wilborn and Davis are slated to take part in the inaugural Raycom College Football All-Star Classic this Saturday, Jan. 19 at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. That game can be seen on CBS College Sports live at 2 p.m. Wilborn, a long-time leader for the Trojans, stayed true to that role and led an offensive line that was hit hard by injuries early in the season, to one of the top units in the country by season’s end.
The Newnan, Ga. native started 47 games over his career and led the Trojans with an 87 percent grade for the 2012 season with 122 knockdowns in 896 snaps. Wilborn, a first team All-Sun Belt selection, finished his Troy career with three Sun Belt Conference championships.
Davis, a Perry, Ga. native, finished the season tied with Trawick for the team lead in tackles with 83. He led all Trojans and ranked 10th in the Sun Belt, averaging 7.5 tackles per game and finished fourth in the league with 62 solo tackles. Davis’ last two games were the strongest, as he recorded 13 tackles against Arkansas State before totaling 10 at the season finale in Middle Tennessee.
Davis’ career ends with a pair of Sun Belt Conference championships, 207 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and 10 forced fumbles. He was also named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in 2012, after earning honorable mention All-Sun Belt honors in 2011.
Trawick, a safety from Marietta, Ga., will close out the slate of appearances for Troy, as he is scheduled to compete in the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game on Feb. 2 at Eagle Stadium in Allen, Texas. FOX Sports will televise the eighth installment of the game live beginning at 7 p.m.
Trawick earned All-Sun Belt honors in both his seasons as a Trojan, including first team recognition in 2011. He finished his senior campaign with 83 tackles, three interceptions and four pass break ups.
Trawick led the Trojans and the Sun Belt with 123 tackles in 2011 and finished the season sixth in the NCAA with 75 solo tackles. He transferred to Troy following one season at Northeast Mississippi Community College after beginning his career at Michigan State.
