The Troy football pro day on Monday, March 4 was a chance for NFL hopefuls to get noticed by scouts.
Twenty total NFL teams including the Ravens, Patriots, Redskins and Falcons had scouts present to evaluate the Trojans as they performed different ability tests.
One of the major tests was the bench press of 225 lbs.
Former Troy running backs D.J. Taylor and Shawn Southward paced the field with their reps on the bench.
Taylor had the most with 29 reps and Southward finished with a solid 27 reps respectively.
Southward also posted a quality 40-yard dash time with a 4.44 time with the wind but the running back is focused on prepping for draft day.
“There is always room for improvement,” Southward said. “For me just continue to catch the ball out of the backfield.”
In the vertical jump, former Trojan wide receiver Chip Reeves posted a 41-inch vertical jump while he had a 10-foot-6 broad jump.
“My agent told me that I did pretty good so I’m happy,” Reeves said. “I’m happy that God gave me the opportunity to come out here and display what I can do so that’s all I can ask for.”
Reeves posted a 4.50 40-yard dash time into the wind but when he switched to running with the wind he had a 4.47 time.
Reeves admitted to tiring himself out during his running so his 40 times were what he said he ran in practice last season.
“I’m happy I didn’t do bad because I could have done worse,” Reeves said.
One former Trojan who did not disappoint in the 40-yard dash was linebacker was Kanorris Davis, who ran a 4.38 into the wind and a 44.4 with the wind.
“I don’t think I did what I wanted to do but I still put up some elite numbers,” Davis said.
Davis said he just wants one of the NFL teams to give him a chance so when he recorded a 10-foot-1 broad jump and a 37 ½ inch vertical jump, the Troy linebacker looked at his pro day as a job interview.
“I’ll go to any interview you can go out to and take your shirt off and just do what you do,” Davis said.
Tony Davis, a Trojan defensive tackle, echoed what Kanorris Davis said about pro day being a job interview for the NFL.
“This is crucial for anything as far as how you dress, you present yourself and how you test,” Tony Davis said. “They look at everything.”
The 2013 NFL Draft, beginning on Thursday, April 25, will tell if any of these Trojans have what it takes to get picked by one of the 32
