The Troy men’s tennis team went 1-1 over the weekend to begin a Sun Belt Conference homestand.
The Trojans suffered their first home loss of the season in an uncharacteristic showing this past Saturday against the Ragin’ Cajuns. Before this match, the Trojans were a perfect 15-0 when winning the doubles point.
The Trojans were trending in the right direction as they quickly claimed the doubles point with victories on courts two and three with identical scores of 6-2.
No. 87 sophomore star Mario Martinez Serrano bolstered his record with another victory on court one 6-3, 6-2.
Senior Carles Anton clawed back in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) to give the Trojans their third point of the day.
Unfortunately, Troy was unable to score another point and eventually fell 4-3 to Louisiana.
Sunday’s senior day match versus the Golden Eagles yielded much better results as the Trojans won 4-1.
Troy handed Southern Miss its first loss in Sun Belt Conference play while improving to 10-1 at home.
Doubles partners Martinez and Luciano Alcocer pushed their perfect record as a pairing to 10-1 with a 6-3 win on court three.
The court two doubles team of Anton and Yeray Andres Pastor improved their record to 7-1 with their 6-4 victory to secure the doubles point for the Trojans.
No. 87 Martinez added yet another win to his impressive season and now sits at 19-1 for the year on court one.
Pastor and Martens both collected their 15th win of the season in singles as they dismantled their opponents and improved the Trojans’ record to 16-4. Play halted after Troy collected its fourth point and booked a 4-1 victory over Southern Miss.
The Trojans will look to build on Sunday’s success during their bout with rival South Alabama on March 30 at 10 a.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
