Football players got taped to the wall to raise money.

Troy football players found themselves in quite a sticky situation last Friday at Troy University Habitat for Humanity’s ‘Stick it to the Team’ fundraiser. Two-dollar donations were accepted for a chance to help tape the football players to the walls of the Trojan Center patio.

Stephanie Fletcher, vice chair of Habitat for Humanity fundraising and a junior political science major from Cleveland, Ohio, shared how the event came to be.

“I really just wanted to step out of the box and do something fun that Troy had not seen before,” Fletcher said.

Habitat for Humanity (HFH) is an organization that helps build and repair homes for those in need. All funds raised from this event will go toward helping the people of Asheville, North Carolina, rebuild after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

“Families were separated and homes completely washed away, so we want to try our best to help, with us being such a service driven community,” Fletcher said.

Jywon Boyd, a Troy football player and a freshman physical education major from Troy, Alabama, shared his thoughts on the fundraiser.

“I want to encourage people to donate to HFH and help put people back in their homes so they can feel safe,” Boyd said. “I know they are probably going through a lot right now, so just contribute to the cause.”

HFH holds many fundraisers throughout the year, this week, March 3-7, they will be hosting a denim drive. All donations will be given to local charities in the Pike County area. Anyone interested in donating can stop by their table in TC from 12-2 PM.

“Anyone can support by joining our organization and helping out with events or even spreading our flyers, even if you’re not involved with the organization itself,” said Fletcher.

Fletcher would also like to encourage anyone who has the means to donate to do so because every little bit helps.

“If you want to donate to Asheville yourself, anything helps, even just five dollars,” Fletcher said. “You can go to belovedasheville.com, and that’s where you can donate.”

Anyone interested in further helping or joining HFH can visit their Instagram @troyuniversityhfh where a link to their GroupMe can also be found.
