Troy Gets new treats: Sno way!

Staff Writer

Abby TaylorAssistant News Editor The summer brought a host of new businesses to Troy that offer a wide variety of menu selections to students. The new businesses include Sno Biz, Sno Dash and New Wave Nutrition. Sno Biz, a shaved ice stand with over 50 shaved ice flavors according to snobiz.com, is now open. Eric and Cindi Postell own the business, which Eric Postell said he began while working for his senior year of college. He has now been running Sno Biz locations for 25 years. “When I was in college at Troy, I dated a girl, and we used to come twice a day to a Sno Biz building and get Sno Biz here in Troy,” Eric Postell said. “I just joked to her and said, ‘You know, we could afford to buy one of these.’” Sno Biz is located in the Crowe’s Chicken parking lot and is open 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. “It’s not a snow cone; it’s real shaved ice,” Eric Postell said. “It (the ice) is shaved off a block … it’s very cool to see, and our flavors are very true to life.” Sno Biz offers a variety of flavors including peach, tiger’s blood and pineapple. Cream can be added to shaved ice for an additional charge. Free cream will be offered to students who show their student ID cards until Aug. 31. Eric Postell said Sno Biz will be available to students at Troy football games. Sno Dash, a frozen treats store that offers rolled ice cream with toppings, is also now open. The store is located in the Sherwin-Williams shopping center and is open noon to 9 p.m. every day. Taneisha Grimsley, the owner of Sno Dash, said the store is unique and not something someone sees every day. The ice cream is rolled in front of customers, and then toppings are added. “It’s fun to watch (the ice cream being rolled) and not only that, but we have friendly staff and we can make just about any ice cream you like,” Grimsley said. The combinations of rolled ice cream include banana pudding, cinnamon toast crunch and strawberry cheesecake. The store has board games, which Grimsley said students are welcome to play, and she said the store invites people to come and hang out. New Wave Nutrition, a nutrition bar located at 313 S. Three Notch St., is also open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. More details on New Wave Nutrition will be added on tropnews.com.
