Rivalry Week began Monday as Troy prepares to take on South Alabama at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Thursday.
Senator Max Herman, a senior hospitality management major from Panama City, Florida, said that he’s excited about this year’s rivalry week, and he thinks that students will enjoy the weekly events.
“We want to beat South Alabama, we want to support The Trojans, and we want to do so with Trojan pride,” Herman said.
A car bash was held Monday, October 17 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Students were allowed to spray paint and smash an old car with a sledgehammer.
A bonfire will be held Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the grassy area behind Trojan Arena.
This is not a designated pep rally, but it will be set up like one. The Rivalry Week Committee, made of representatives from SGA and Student Alumni Association to name a few, decided on the name “It’s Lit” for the evening’s events.
At 6 p.m. the event will begin and feature free hot dogs for the first 500 people who arrive.
The bonfire will be lit at 7 p.m., where South gear provided by Student Alumni Association will be burned. The fire will burn for about 30 minutes before the band party begins at 7:30 p.m.
Herbert Reeves, dean of student services, said the band Kane and the Saints will perform until 9 p.m.
A Rivalry Week photo booth will be Wednesday in the Trojan Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., allowing students to take pictures and post them to social media.
Sierra Clark, a junior exercise science major from Vestavia Hills and campus life chair for the SGA, said that this week builds spirit among the student body.
“It’s important because it lifts the morale of the student body and gives them a sense of pride for their school and in their team,” Clark said. “I love going to a school where the students get so excited for and invested in Rivalry Week.”
The athletics department is selling tickets for the South Alabama game for $10, which provides a ticket to the game and a tailgate entry. For $20, students receive a ticket, tailgate, and transportation.
Buses will start loading at 12:30 p.m. at the Trojan Center parking area and leave at 1. Classes after 11:30 that day will be excused.
Tickets can be picked up in the Student Government Association office in Trojan Center 215 for those who have already purchased.
