While teaching in Vietnam, Dr. Lisa Kate Price- Howard as well as the Chairman of the Department of Hospitality, Sports, and Tourism Management Dr. Win Koo took the time to explore the history and enjoy the food, but she also worked to share the Trojan Pride with the students she met overseas.
The Tropolitan sat down with both professors to find out more about their two-week trip to teach at the University of Duy Tan University, a private institution located in Da Nang, Vietnam.
“It is a fun topic to teach,” said Price-Howard. “There are a lot of non-verbal things we are trying to teach, like positive energy, and even as little as smiling with our students.”
Koo said he believes this experience allowed students to increase their skills in time-management, communication and critical thinking.
“This was my first time in Dan Nang, “ said Koo. “I was shocked – it’s a very beautiful city.
“I went to Hoi Ani before, but DaNang is just a touristic place.”
The two also made time to enjoy and have fun, in which they toured lavish hotels in the area, went wine tasting and even participated in a cooking class in Hoi, An. From cycling tours to a historical attraction, Price Howard said there is no shortage of experiences.
“With the tourism that I have seen in Vietnam, it’s amazing, “Price-Howard said. “I wouldn’t think , in the beginning, that it would be like that, but when I traveled to Hoi An and DaNang - it’s spectacular, it’s welcoming, and it’s very diverse.”
Ultimately, both Koo and Price-Howard said this trip was a success.
“The students care so much,” Price-Howard said. “They are excited to be here.
“Their attention to detail of what to do and their desire to learn while I’m physically here is very exciting because they don’t dread it.”
“I do wish we had more time with them,” Koo said. “Hopefully in the future, I see these students in the workplace like, hotels, the government or even a professor to provide a better education to students.”
