Troy men’s basketball released its 2024-25 schedule earlier this month. A tough non-conference schedule provides the Trojans with plenty of opportunities to come away with quality wins.
“This will be the most challenging schedule we have had since I have been the head coach at Troy,” said Scott Cross in a Troy Athletics press release. “We will play three really good teams in Arkansas, Oregon and Houston, who will likely be among the top three teams going into the season.”
Road contests in Arkansas, Oregon and Houston headline the schedule, but there are other quality opponents set to play Troy. Houston finished first in the NET rankings last season, while Oregon slotted in at no. 59.
Arkansas will prove to be a formidable opponent, with legendary Kentucky head coach John Calipari shocking the men’s college basketball world by announcing a move to the Razorbacks.
The Trojans open the season at home against Toledo, which finished the regular season atop the MAC with a 20-12 record in 2023. Toledo lost its top three scorers but returned MAC Freshman of the year Javan Simmons.
Troy also faces UTSA at home. The Roadrunners had a disappointing 2023 season, but they hired Alabama assistant coach Austin Claunch as their new leader. Claunch overhauled the team, adding 13 transfers to the roster this offseason.
A matchup against Eastern Kentucky gives the Trojans another tough non-conference opponent. In 2023, the Colonels edged Troy 77-76 and finished the season as ASUN regular season champions.
“We will host Eastern Kentucky, which is always at the top of the ASUN,” Cross said in the press release. “We will definitely be prepared for Sun Belt Conference play after taking on this gauntlet of a non-conference schedule.”
The Trojans open their conference schedule on Dec. 21 at home against Georgia State. They also take on a MAC opponent yet to be named on Feb. 8, 2025.
During conference play, Troy will take on some formidable squads. Appalachian State finished 2023 ranked no. 72 in NET, and James Madison finished at no. 52.
The Sun Belt Conference tournament begins on March 4 in Pensacola, Florida.
